No Man is an Island. But You Can Buy One…

Gilligan’s Island (SS Minnow Sold Separately)

With apologies to John Donne and Weezer, an island-in-the-sun sounds like exactly the right remedy as we struggle through the grip of yet another icy-cold winter here in the Twin Cities. (how cold is it?)

And, as this article (from Real Estate Journal On-Line) points out, islands are all the rage, and come in price ranges that don’t require money like Mel Gibson, who recently paid $15 Million for a 5300+ acre island (complete with a coconut farm and the 40 families that work there) in the Pacific.

While dreaming of sand beaches and sunny days, a quick survey of on-line real estate listings turned up these islands for sale, right in our relative back-yard:

Salo Island $265,000, Lake Vermilion, Minnesota

Magestic Island $149,000. Beaver Dam Lake, Wisconsin

Basin Island $2.25 Million. Door County, Wisconsin

Or, if you are really on a budget, love travel, and want an actual island in the sun:

Gilligan’s Island (SS Minnow not included) $45,000 Caragan, Philipines
