Last Week: Rates Unchanged
Little change to most rates last week as mortgage bonds traded in a fairly tight range.  Though retail sales figures suggested an improving economy, inflation (is there or isn’t there?), rather than economic improvement seems to be setting the tone for the bond markets.
This Week:  Inflation, Inflation, Inflation
The Producer Price Index on Tuesday and the Consumer Price Index on Wednesday will be the big numbers to watch as the markets remain ever vigilant for signs of inflation.  Lots of other data being released this week as well – housing starts, industrial production, capacity utilization, and leading economic indicators data also bear watching.
