Back, Sort Of….

by Alex Stenback on September 19, 2006

We’ve been away on an extended end-of-season vacation, (in Italy, should readers care about such things) so apologies for the lack of posting lately, and well, the whole summer.  As we swing into fall you’ll be seeing more and more of the old behind the mortgage, but in the meantime, hold yourselves over with a couple of credit/identity theft related hacks.  Rather boring, but important stuff, we know, but its been a while since we’ve touched on this:

First, if you haven’t done so this year, got get yourself a free copy of your credit report here: www.annualcreditreport.com

Now, go to this website [optoutprescreen.com] and opt out of pre-screened credit card offers (one of the most common methods of identity theft is stealing these)this will also halt the credit offer junk mail.

Next up?  The do not call registry [donotcall.gov]  Stop the telemarketing.

All done?  Now click thorugh to these other related tips:
Don’t Sign Your Credit Cards [lifehacker.com]
How to Get through Identity Theft [consumerist.com]
How to: Initiate a Fraud Alert [behindthemortgage.com]
