Ford Plant Forum Brings Out the Commies, Developers

by Alex Stenback on May 9, 2007

When the Saint Paul Ford plant closure was originally announced, a hot real estate market had developers circling like vultures, ready to pick the land clean of the old plant and replace it with a huge residential/retail/business development (Industrious Vultures! At least in BTM land.)

But at a forum held Tuesday night to discuss the plans for the soon-to-be vacant site, another (collective?) voice was heard, airing the most absurd plan of all:

Members of the Minneapolis Club of the Communist Party, meanwhile,
walked through the meeting holding up signs supporting their hope of
public ownership. They want the city or the state to take over the
plant and continue manufacturing there.

First, there is really (really!) a Minnesota Commie Club.  Second, what would we manufacture there?  Will Minnesota resurrect the Yugo? Third, non-insane people are betting on some mix of residential and business development for the site.
