HGTV Descends on Twin Cities Bloggers

by Alex Stenback on September 19, 2007

HGTV’s show Decorating Cents has apparently been trolling the local blogs for home makeover candidates.

First, our Man, WCCO news Reporter, blogger, new dad x2 (and darling of the internets) Jason Derusha will have his home invaded by the crew in October.

While Girl Friday/Alexis McKinnis, (who has just been all over the local media place lately) will be getting a living room makeover in December.

While we don’t go in much for HGTV’s programming, Mrs. Behind The Mortgage does in a BIG way, and reports that ‘Cents host Joan Steffend and her guest designers tastes tend to be on the hokey side.  We’re not sure what that means they are in for, so we will wish them both luck.

This little blurb from the show description says it all to me….
host Joan Steffend and guest designers provide room makeovers costing less than $500, ways to turn trash into treasures, and tips on making a room feel and look fresh just by rearranging furniture and adding a few inexpensive accessories.
I guess that I’m not as creative as some..but trash in my house usually stays trash!

Joan isn’t the host anymore… so that’s something. And the designers have all been changed, as far as I understand. We’ll see how it goes. It’s only paint and decoration and some carpentry… if it sucks, it can be fixed. I’m up for an adventure, though. (of course, having a new baby should be enough adventure for us!)

I hope it’s more than just moving the sofa to the other side of the room and adding more knickknacks.

Be very afraid. This show tends to do a lot of country and shabby chic stuff, plaids and toiles and scary stuff with glue guns and beads.
Prepare yourselves. Watch a few episodes. Hide any pictures that could be decopaged to a table top, and burn any fabric, tablecloths or sheets you don’t want to see hanging as a canopy over the head of your bed. In fact, you might want to purchase a few really nice things in the colors you love and scatter them around in other rooms so the designers can ‘find’ them and use them in the new design.
Good luck.

LOL @ Anne.

My designer seemed really cool and we both immediately had the same ideas about the redeco. Anything’s more interesting than what I’ve got going now.
